A few new things to wrap up the year. I've added full support for rates
for each reflector. This means whenever you click the Go button (the
connect command) and when you download the scanner's list in the Cornell
0.9X/1.0 PhoneBook format or Q-SeeMe format, the rates listed for the
reflector will be the ones used under the right conditions. For more help
on rates and what to do with them, check out the Rates Help Page. The
defaults should work fine on a lot of refs. Otherwise, you can tweak the
rates it uses yourself. Also note that the support of rates relies upon
your ability to accept cookies. If you don't accept cookies, it won't
work right, but should use default modem rates. Something else that's new is the support for Apple MacOS 8.5's Sherlock. I've written a few Sherlock plugins to make searching for people on reflectors and performing DNS lookups easier. Check out my Sherlock Plugins page to download the plugins and try them out. If they work, email me. If they don't, email me as well. As I don't have a Mac, I can only guess that I've done it right. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve it, let me know. Along with the Sherlock support comes a few new Sherlock-specific commands for IP lookup and searching. There's Search Sherlock and Lookup Sherlock which I mainly use to track how popular the Sherlock commands are. That should be it for awhile. |
| 11/21/98 | After a LOT of work and a few glitches, the scanner should be HTML 4.0 compliant. This means it should work more smoothly on more browsers than just Netscape (what I use to design and test it on). I've also played around some with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to make the tables look better on Internet Explorer 4. IE4 has better support for CSS than Netscape 4 it seems. If it looks horrible, tell me. You can click the W3C link at the bottom of each page to validate it for HTML 4.0. Whew. |

The biggest news is the addition of the
Conference List Scanner which currently scans all currently
active White Pine reflectors (including MeetingPoint) every 10 minutes
and displays the conferences on the reflector with the number of senders
and lurkers. There are options below and on the page itself to limit and sort the
list. This feature can be used to show which White Pine reflectors are active with people on them.
You can use use the Show All feature to show even empty conferences.
Useful sorting techniques: Reflector Name, Reverse Number of Participants (Reflector),
and Reverse Number of Participants (Conference). Have fun with it and let me
know how you like it. Also there's a new color scheme that will hopefully be easier to read on more platforms. Thanks to Jeeves for the help on it. |
| 09/27/98 | After a few weeks of downtime, the reflector scanner is back and better than ever. Thanks to Marc Landau for letting me use his system. Feel free to let me know if anything is broken. I've tried to make sure everything is in working order, but I could have easily missed something. WHEW |
| 08/21/98 | There's now a new feature on the scanner: Conference Lister (CL). There's a button for active White Pine reflectors labeled CL which will give you the conference selection menu for the reflector. It's the same as if you were using the White Pine client or Cornell client with Quick Connect unchecked except it's nicely formatted and you can do it for just about any White Pine reflector that's up. Let me know what you think. This could also be extended to scan reflectors every X minutes to show you how many are on each conference. Just let me know how you use it or would like it. Thanks go out to Brian Godette for the idea and Rollo for helping me test it and helping me with a Perl version of it. |
| 06/27/98 |
There's now a new download format for the 0.83b version of
Q-SeeMe. Thanks to Lany for
help on the format. Also new is the NEW link to the Official Cornell 1.0 User's Guide which now also has the link to download directly on it. You can choose from an installer or the plain zipped version. |
| 06/11/98 |
NEWS FLASHThe long awaited and much desired PC Cornell 1.0 version is here. Check the link for various places to get it as well as other useful links for 1.0. If you need help with it, check out Bill Woodland's Version 1.0 Visual User's Guide. Also note that 1.0 has native support for execution from web pages. Just select the MIME type of application/cu-seeme to execute 1.0 and you can use the scanner to execute CU and connect to reflectors. |
| 06/11/98 |
Thanks go out to Heather
James for the graphic at the top of the page. There is now minimal support for Conference IDs (a new field on the scanner). It tells you the conference ID for the reflector and if you use the GO link, will connect you to that ID. For Cornell 0.9X/1.0 users, downloading the PhoneBook also now includes the conference IDs. |
| 12/06/97 | Thanks to Chris Silverberg and Richard Cekal for their contributions to the Cornell CU-SeeMe scene. Thanks to them, you can now use Cornell CU-SeeMe to connect using the Go link on the scanner. Chris has developed CUHelper and Richard has extended Cusdial to allow connecting from web pages. Just setup your web browser to execute these programs with MIME type application/x-cu-seeme and it should work perfectly. Be sure and thank these guys :) |
| 09/22/97 | I've added a way to track which web pages are linking to my scanner. If you come here from another web page, you'll see the counter increment for how many visitors from that page. There's also a new command called referer which will tell you which web pages have linked to the scanner. |
| 09/16/97 | Due to the reflector list getting too huge, I've implemented an auto-weed system that automatically deletes reflectors that haven't been up for 3 months. This should slowly weed out the dead refs. |
| 09/01/97 | A new Download format was added for White Pine 3.X users (Macintosh and PC). It's the White Pine CSV format that you can use to import straight into your Phonebook. The Download Help was also updated to include this new format as well as fix the information for the Cornell 0.92b2/1.0 Phonebook |
| 08/15/97 | To compliment the scan command, there's also a search command which will search the people on the reflectors listed with the scan command and only display people who match the IP/Name of who you enter. You can either click the above link or the one below the newsbits. I'm not sure if this will be used much, but hey it was fun and not hard to add :) |
| 08/15/97 | I've added a new section that scans all the authorized reflectors that are listed as being up and shows you in a nutshell who is on all of them. As with other parts of the scanner, I've tried to keep this as versatile as possible. You can sort this list on all of the fields that are printed. Use the above link, or the one a bit lower to print out the list sorted in a different way. Thanks to SaltyDog and Lady Xeen for helping me out with this addition and giving me some ideas. |
| 07/23/97 | I've been playing with a URL redirector for the ref scanner. If you want to try a shorter URL for here, try using http://cuseeme.home.ml.org. |
| 07/08/97 | I've added direct support for IP lookup and InterNIC lookups which can help you identify the name and location of an IP address. It's used when looking up who's on a reflector (White Pine or Enhanced Reflector). Check the commands out and tell me what you think. |
| 06/22/97 | I've now included a way for you to see the breakdown of which commands are getting used in the scanner and which aren't. It will give you (and me) a good indication of what's being used. Check out the Stats Page and let me know what you think. |
| 06/21/97 | The scanner now has support for Brian Godette's Enhanced Reflector. If you know of any reflector operators using the Cornell version please pass that URL to them and if they need help with the config file to email me. You can now also see who's on Enhanced Reflectors the same as White Pine Reflectors. (Thanks go to Ciaran Carter of the St. Brendan reflector and El & D of the El Reflector for allowing me to test with their reflector). |
| 05/26/97 | The scanner now should work much faster if you select the sorting options on dates. (Verified/Added). Also, if I've found a URL for the reflector, you'll be able to click on the Name of the reflector to go to it. |
| 05/16/97 | The Download help has been updated with information on how to import the new Cornell 0.92/1.0 PhoneBook for those that wish to use this great version. |
| 05/04/97 | The reflector scanner now uses HTTP COOKIES to save the sorting, reverse, and age options for those browsers which support cookies. This makes it easier on you because you can set the options the way you want (ie: sort by reverse number of connects, age of 0 days to display the most popular reflectors that are currently active), and it will save the options as a cookie so when you return to the page, it will automatically pop up sorted by reverse number of connects with an age of 0 days. Let me know what you think of this. It's my first little attempt at messing with cookies. To get back to the default configuration, select the reset option at the top. |
| Help Page | For help on what all the fields mean and a little background, check out the extensive help page. It will (hopefully) answer any questions you have about the scanner as well as explain what everything means and how to use it effectively. |
| Authorization | If you'd like to be able to see who's on a White Pine or Enhanced Reflector that's listed here, it needs to be an authorized IP. To become an authorized IP, I need an email message from the reflector operator stating that his/her IP address can be connected to via this scanner. The email message must originate from the same domain as the reflector they are emailing me about. The scanner part of this page only becomes truly effective when the reflectors you visit become authorized. Otherwise, it's just a current reflector list. So spread the word, and have the reflector operators email me. I can be found at streak@cu-seeme.net |
| Add New Refs | Updates to this list only happen when I find out new reflectors by surfing the web/email, or if you add reflectors you know about. You can also email me any reflector addresses or information about reflectors already in the list and I can add them/change them. If you email me new reflector IPs, all I do is add them thru this page. |
| Downloadable |
You can now download the
list that this scanner produces in a variety of formats. If you
select "Download" from here, whatever list is displayed on the
screen below will be sent to you in the format you select. This
means you can sort the list from (from above) then download the
proper format for your computer here. Also check out the
Download help if you need more
information about what to do with these fomats. |
